Magazine Research (College Lifestyle)

Magazine Research

For this magazine, there is a colour scheme of black and yellow. The black background allows the yellow to stand out when in the magazine shop to draw people in to take a look at what the magazine is about and what is included inside. I feel that the yellow colour can indicate that you will have a bright future as yellow is, in my eyes one of the brightest colours. There is also the text which is white allowing it to be easily read on the dark background. The student is also following the colour scheme with his clothing, his coat is black and his t shirt is white.

The masthead is in yellow, however even though it really noticeable and catches your eye, the main image is covering some of it up to make main image stand out and focus your eyes on it. The main image is the student gazing into the readers eyes with a smile to show as if he’s enjoying his time at this specific college; this could translate into the fact that he’s smiling about the college so the magazine must be as good as he’s implying.

The magazine has a strapline underneath the masthead, this can sometimes be a funny slogan, and however in this case it seems to be that it’s actually giving some information off to allow the reader to have a rough idea on what it’s about. ‘Lifestyle’ can indicate that it’s the life within the specific college and how the students live inside college. If the magazine didn't have ‘Lifestyle’ it probably wouldn't make too much of a difference but some people might think it’s about college in general and not the students’ lives and what they do in college.

Above the masthead there is a small banner saying that this magazine has everything you need to know. Using the word ‘need’ creates urgency pushing the viewer to buy the product. It also shows the date of the magazine in yellow to prompt the reader that they are buying the most up to date edition. Lastly the magazine also advertises the fact they have a website. This is posted just underneath the masthead.
