Contents Page Research
For this content page of Q magazine, it has one really large image of Adele; it takes up nearly half of the page, it is also a close up shot of Adele’s face, she is giving a gaze into the readers eye. Adele is the main image of the magazine as she seems to be the most important story, also as she’s an iconic figure with a lot of top hit songs. At the bottom of the picture it has a white box that stands out to the eye with the page number offering information that is trying to lure you in to read the page of which Adele is on.
The house style of Q magazine is red and white. The red and white can make the consumer remind them of other top brands. Red and white can link to KFC which is one of the biggest fast food chains in the world. Also, going through house style there is the font. The magazine Q’s font, is only really used in Q magazine, therefore if someone is an avid reader of the magazine and notices the font somewhere it might link back to the remembrance of the magazine.
Q also has a review section of their magazine in their contents page. It’s as if Q has its own opinion and its creating a persona. The review on this contents page of the Q magazine is the second thing you notice within the contents page. The Q review has a strapline saying ‘The world’s biggest and best music guide’ instantaneously indicating they are the go to magazine for reviews. The review tab at the bottom has numbers linking to the end of the magazine with many different reviews going from page 124 to page 170.
The content down the side has three sub-sections on this specific magazine. Starting with features, showing things in the magazine that can change up every week. Each heading has a small subheading allowing you to find out a bit more of what is on those pages. Next there is the ‘Women in music’ which I believe is a special section for this edition as it is highlighted to stand out. Lastly there is the ‘Every month’ tab which has content which re-occurs from every month’s magazine, this includes crosswords, fan mail and top 50s.
The target audience is people who really enjoy music that are in their twenties, I believe that the magazine itself actually attracts the target audience by showing off an iconic figure such as Adele who is on the contents page on this specific edition of Q magazine. As this edition is mainly centred on women in music, this can indicate that the main target audience of this edition is slightly leaning over to the women’s side.
The purpose of the contents page is to inform you of where everything is and show a bit of information within that. This magazine is really effective at putting the contents page across; it is clean and simple with the contents on the side with a split where the images are on the right taking up most of the page. Anyone who looks at this page won’t get lost of where they are looking.
